One single cell that can spread wider than a dinner plate, with thousands of sticky nuclei and no one in charge! Put her in a maze and she navigates the shortest way to tasty nutrients. Lay oats on Tokyo’s city maps and she mirrors the rail network modelled by engineers. The yellow tendrils here aren’t hair. They are the slime mould interceptors, reaching in all directions, tasting the dark to find goodness. Working 9 to 5 – a long, patient commitment to finding the tasty way out of our human troubles.
